Structured Dynamics-related Resources

These are projects or initiatives that have been created or co-created by Structured Dynamics. Key sections are:

Sandboxes & Demos

Citizen Dan Community Indicator System Citizen Dan
Citizen Dan is an open source system for aggregating different indicator data concerning local, community well-being. Information sources may include the Web, real-time feeds, government datasets, municipal government information systems, or crowdsourced data. This is a fully working, demo of an open semantic framework.
sComponent Demos Semantic Component Widgets
Semantic components (sComponents) are Flex-based data visualization, display and manipulation widgets tailored to structWSF data. These components may also be used directly in HTML pages, or in conStruct. The demo pages have about a dozen demos of various widgets from a concept explorer, to story viewer, to map display, and chart displays.
UMBEL Web Services UMBEL Web Services
This site provides access to about a dozen UMBEL (see below) reference subject concept Web services in areas such as lookups, concept explorer, subject concept details, and SPARQL endpoints. The demo also provides API descriptions and access.

Technologies & Open Source Software

structWSF Web Services Framework structWSF
The structWSF Web services framework is platform-independent middleware for accessing and exposing structured RDF data, with generic tools driven by underlying data structures. A structWSF layer may be placed over virtually any existing datastore with Web access.
conStruct Drupal Module conStruct
conStruct is a structured content system built on the Drupal content management framework. conStruct enables structured data and its controlling vocabularies (ontologies) to drive applications and user interfaces; it is built upon the structWSF framework.
sComponent Demos sComponents (Semantic Components)
sComponents are Flex-based data visualization, display and manipulation widgets tailored to structWSF data. These components may also be used directly in HTML pages, or in conStruct. The library includes its own ontology and control object. Representative widgets include the concept (relation) browser, search, the manager and editor, story viewer, map object, image, box object, text object, pie chart, bar chart and linear chart.
scones Tagger scones
Structured Dynamics' scones (Subject Concept Or Named EntitieS) tagger provides information extraction of domain-specific subject concepts and entities from unstructured text.

  Ontologies & Vocabularies

UMBEL Subject Concept Ontology UMBEL
UMBEL (Upper Mapping and Binding Exchange Layer) is a lightweight vocabulary of 20,000 subjects and the conceptual relationships between them. The UMBEL backbone is also a reference structure for more specific vocabularies for interrelating and connecting more specific domains, and can act as binding or attachment points for any Web content or data. It is based on SKOS and derived from the Cyc knowledge base.
OpenLink Software irON
irON (the instance record and Object Notation) is a abstract notation and associated vocabulary for specifying RDF triples and schema in non-RDF forms. Its purpose is to allow users and tools in non-RDF formats to stage interoperable datasets with RDF using either JSON, XML or CSV formats.
Cycorp Bibliographic Ontology
The Bibliographic Ontology (BIBO) provides main concepts and properties for describing citations and bibliographic references (i.e., quotes, books, articles, etc) on the semantic Web. It can be used as a citation ontology, a document classification ontology, or a way to describe any kind of document in RDF.
MUNI Ontology MUNI Ontology
The MUNI Ontology is a general purpose, open-source and open-collaboration vocabulary and ontology for city, municipal, and local community purposes. The ontology is being developed specifically to support the Citizen DAN community and data appliance, though it may be applied to any local community context.
Music Ontology Music Ontology
The Music Ontology is an attempt to link all the information about musical artists, albums and tracks together, from MusicBrainz to MySpace. The goal is to express all relations between musical information in order to help people find anything about music and musicians. It is based around the concept of machine readable information provided by any web site or web service on the Web.

Documentation & Methodologies

TechWiki Knowledge Base TechWiki
TechWiki is the generic technical wiki providing documentation for the software and related systems associated with the various OpenStructs open source software projects. Its nearly 400 technical articles, many figures, organization and infrastructure provide a complete, open source knowledge base that itself can be downloaded and modifed for local use (including branding and proprietary modifications). TechWiki documentation relates to all parts of the open semantic framework (OSF).
Open SEAS Open SEAS
Open SEAS (Semantic Enterprise Adoption and Solutions) is an open source methodology, complete with documentation, compliant with MIKE2.0 (Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment) for helping enterprises to transition into semantic technologies and applications.

Web Properties & Blogs

Citizen DAN Community Indicator System OpenStructs
OpenStructs.org is the main access and distribution site for all components of Structured Dynamics' open semantic framework, including structWSF, conStruct, sComponents and irON (see above). This site is the central location to get links to code, technical backup, user groups, community activities, and the like. OpenStructs is intended to be the ongoing release and distribution point for all open source code contributed by Structured Dynamics.
Citizen DAN Community Indicator System AI3:::Adaptive Information Blog
Mike Bergman's AI3 blog is one of the most popular in the semantic Web and linked data space, with about 4000 daily visitors. The blog was first started in 2005. Mike is known for his prolific and comprehensive posts in all areas of semantic technologies and structured data. His posts are frequently re-posted on SemanticWeb.com and archived on the TechWiki knowledge base and MIKE2.0.

FGiasson's Blog
Fred Giasson's blog has been a source of technical posts and oft-cited innovations since 2005. Fred's blog has been the venue for first announcements regarding PingtheSemanticWeb, the structured DataViewer, zLinks, structWSF, sComponents, and many explanatory commentaries on best technical practices regarding RDF, linked data and ontologies.
